Sissu, also known as Khwaling, is a quaint village nestled in the northern part of India within the state of Himachal Pradesh. It captivates visitors with its untouched beauty and tranquility. Sissu is located adjacent to the Indo-Chinese border at an altitude of 3,120 meters above sea level. It is located in the Lahaul Valley and is around 40 km from Manali. The village is relatively unexplored, with various scenic spots and each has a uniqueness of its own. The ardent travelers, especially the trekkers and photographers love to explore this cold desert, which is surrounded by many natural splendors.
One can visit the beautiful Sissu waterfall across the Chandra river and opposite the town, locally known as ‘Palden Lhamo dhar’, which is particularly spectacular1. The adjacent village of Shashin is home of the famous deity of Lahaul known as Ghepan/Ghepang or Lord Gyephang. The mountain, Gyephang Goh, altitude 5,870 m. (19,258 ft.), to the east of the town is named after him.
The best way to reach Sissu is via an overnight bus from Delhi or Chandigarh. These buses run to Keylong and take brief halts at Kullu & Manali3. It will take around 13-15 hours to reach Sissu!
